The Shorter the Better!
Cutting your hair is a BIG deal to a lot of people, especially those with long hair that might have taken foreverrr to grow out. However, cutting your hair is so very refreshing and perfect for the hot weather this summer. Are you nervous? Scared you may look bad or you may not like it? Trust me, we’ve all been there at least once in our lives. I’ve had long hair since forever and when I decided to cut my hair short, I was terrified, even though I was only cutting about 5-6 inches. Not that much, I know. I was nervous that it was going to look horrible on me, although it was a simple cut that went only to the top of my chest. My best friend, Daisy, had inspired me to cut my hair. She had first cut her hair in the early year of 9th grade. It had been cut to her shoulders (it was super cute). Oh, and you can’t forget that she has also dyed the ends of her hair red, blue, and purple. Once her purple hair began to fade out, she made the courageous decision to get a pixie cut! Shortly after, she also dyed her whole head blue! I had always imagined her with this hairstyle and was so happy for her when she did it! She’s one of the very few I know with a pixie cut, and I’d love to see more girls doing it. But don’t worry if you have long hair, you are still equally amazing.
I decided to interview Daisy and ask her a few questions about dealing with people’s opinions, how it feels, and some advice.
Me: How does it feel having short hair?
Daisy: It basically feels like I’m wearing a ponytail all the time. It also feels a lot lighter, and airy.
Me: Cutting your hair short AND dying it a color is a big decision. Did you feel as though you’d be judged?
Daisy: For cutting it short, yes. There’s that whole stereotype that girls with short hair are gay, which is stupid. I was also scared because when I had asked a couple of friends to see what they thought, a lot of them said “I can’t see you with it.” Or “I don’t know, I don’t really like short hair.”, but I did it anyways because I really wanted to. As for dying it, no. I like to dye my hair, and I honestly just don’t care what people think because I like it.
Me: How did you overcome that feeling of being judged?
Daisy: Well, I got past the point where I was going to stop myself from doing it but I always do feel that people are going to judge me based of it, so I haven’t really overcame that. But, I have overcame the point where they’re going to make me regret doing it, because I don’t regret doing it at all. It just sucks because I feel like people still judge me for it.
Me: How do you feel about the short hair trend going on right now?
Daisy: I think it’s cool because as more and more people begin to do it maybe they’ll stop making it such a stereotype. I think that cutting your hair is a fun thing to do in general because you’re trying something new, especially for people who feel suck in a ‘rut’. But, I don’t think anyone should cut their hair because they want to fit into a trend, it should be more of a choice kind of thing.
Me: What would be your advice to someone who wants to cut their hair but is too nervous because they are scared of being judged?
Daisy: If you’re nervous about people about judging you, I would say to really think about who would judge you and how much that would really affect you, because your real friends aren’t supposed to judge you based off of things that you like. So, is it really worth not doing something you love and you really want to do because that one or two people don’t like it? It’s your hair, not theirs. Do what makes you happy, and try not to over think it too much.
Never be afraid to be yourself! No matter if you have long or short hair, you are beautiful. I almost forget to tell you all, I did end up cutting my hair to the top of my chest and I love it! It’s a perfect length for me.
I hope you all enjoyed this article! Thank you to my best friend, Daisy, for helping me out with this article. See you all next time.
