DIY: A Music Festival

DIY: A Music Festival

It’s that time of year again. Music festival season! But let’s be real guys, how many of us are actually going? They're usually super expensive, and mostly people live nowhere near them! Some people, such as yours truly, have been dying to go to a music festival and can’t because of these very reasons, but no worries! Invite a few buds over, grab some speakers and read how to make your own.

From laid-back fests like Coachella to crazy ones like Ultra, music festivals let us forget about the stress of our fast-paced lives and get us to enjoy the music we love and find new artists, too! Find a good bunch of your favorite artists and, if you’re daring, look up suggestions of similar artists on Spotify, and make a playlist of a good amount of songs (keeping in mind that it’s going to most likely last hours!). Maybe check out the lineup of your favorite festival and create a playlist of those people. Grab some speakers (think iHome-type device,) hook up your playlist, and jam out!

The location of music fests are crucial to the feeling of it. Get some decorations that go with the theme of the festival you’re going for. For example, if you want to imitate an EDM festival, I’d totally go with tons of glow sticks! Or if you’re going for a more Coachella vibe, hang some twinkling lights…and grab some glow sticks for that as well (‘cause you can never go wrong with glow sticks!) Also, get some chairs set up around the speakers, just in case you guys need a break from dancing!

Coachella, aka my DREAM music festival, is well known for not only its amazing artists, but the outfits as well! The Spark Post will be publishing a Coachella cookbook soon, so look out for that, and hit the mall with your friends to get that music festival vibe (p.s. you could never go wrong with some Woodstock-style shades!)

The most important step in creating your own music festival is the people. Invite as many people as you’d like, the more the merrier! I would do it in a backyard, since it’s more convenient, but if a backyard is difficult to accommodate so many people, go to the beach or even a park. Just make sure it’s legal and doesn’t get too out of hand! And don’t forget food and drinks because hard-core jamming to your favorite music can be tiring! Lastly, enjoy yourself! Forget about the outside world, imagine your favorite artists are playing in front of you, and dance/sing your heart out!
